Blanket Jacket
I went to the army surplus store to get a wool blanket so I could make myself a warm wool jacket. Sometimes a wool blanket can be cheaper than buying wool fabric by the yard and mine had some cool vintage features.
For this project I didn’t make any sketches I just started draping, I don’t know why but sometimes that’s how my creative process goes. First, I started off with a knee-length coat, but then I cropped it. I also went with a combined kimono sleeve and fitted sleeve concept. I wanted some contrast binding around the jacket too so I made the sleeve seams on the outside so that I could bind those too for some added interest.

Behind the Scenes
My designs thus far have been pretty basic. I mean I’ve always been making stuff that I think is cute and that I would totally wear, still much more unique than what I can find at the mall. But few of my designs have been very dramatic. I think what separates designers from real high-end runway designers is the appeal to drama. So I’ve made it a goal for the rest of 2022 and all of 2023 to make my designs more dramatic. Maybe this will make them uglier, I don’t know. But I’ve had so many new ideas its overwhelming!
